Given that our last cleaning tip focused around the nation’s favourite brew, we thought what better way to follow on than with a tip for our other hot drink of choice: coffee!
We may be a nation of tea drinkers, but we still drink around 70 million cups of coffee every day. Whatever your favourite – lattes, cappucinos, iced mocha frappes with whipped cream, or down-to-earth Americanos, one thing rings true across the menu: coffee stains are a nightmare to get rid of!
Fortunately, a little cold water works wonders on carpets – just sponge it on and blot dry; stubborn stains may need carpet shampoo.
With fabric, soak in a solution of warm water and washing soda, then wash on a hot setting. For a brilliant natural stain remover, mix one part clear vinegar with two parts water.
Finally, for upholstery, once again sponge with cold water and then dab with laundry detergent. If all else fails, proprietary stain removers should do the trick.
Whether you’re a steadfast British tea-drinker or have more Continental tastes, rest assured that our favourite hot beverages needn’t make you jittery as far as cleaning is concerned.
